Breaking the Cycle of Diet-Hopping: Unmasking Nutrition Myths and Facts

Dr. Joel Kahn

At his core, Dr. Joel Kahn believes that plant-based nutrition is the most powerful source of preventative medicine on the planet. Having practiced traditional cardiology since 1983, it was only after his own commitment to a plant based vegan diet that he truly began to delve into the realm of non-traditional diagnostic tools, prevention tactics and nutrition-based recovery protocols. These ideologies led him to change his approach and focus on being a holistic cardiologist. He passionately lectures throughout the country about the health benefits of a plant-based anti-aging diet inspiring a new generation of thought leaders to think scientifically and critically about the body’s ability to heal itself through proper nutrition.

One of the world’s top cardiologists, Dr. Joel Kahn has treated thousands of acute heart attacks during his career. He’d like all that to stop. He’d like to prevent ALL future heart attacks by breaking through to the public to educate and inspire a new holistic lifestyle. Now is the time to focus on educating the public to eat clean, sweat clean and apply cutting edge science to their lifestyle.

Caryn began STL Veg Girl traveling all around St. Louis (and eventually nationally!) speaking and presenting on the topic of plant-based cooking and meal prep to prevent and reverse our all too common chronic illnesses. In 2019 she opened the Center for Plant-based Living to offer support, resources and community to those who are looking to add more plants to their plates.

From Pills to Plants: How Plant-Based Eating is Proving to be a Lifesaver

Dr. Niki Davis

Niki Davis, MD is a “rocket scientist” turned physician. She is board certified in both family medicine and lifestyle medicine. At age 13, she started removing animal products from her diet because she didn’t feel it was healthy. Once in college, she obtained bachelor and master degrees in mechanical engineering and worked on the space shuttle program for several years. However, instead of rockets on her mind, she was constantly thinking about health and nutrition – helping her own family members improve their health and their lives by switching to a plant based lifestyle.
She eventually found her way back to her passion after leaving her engineering career to apply for medical school. She graduated from the University of Utah School of Medicine in 2017 and completed a Family Medicine residency program in 2020. While in residency, in addition to serving as Wellness Chief, she helped form Plant Based Montana, an advocacy group with the mission to educate healthcare providers and the general public about the benefits of a plant based diet.
She has had the pleasure of speaking at plant based events around the country and has been lucky enough to train with phenomenal mentors such as Dr. John McDougall, Dr. Michael Klaper, Dr. Anthony Lim, Dr. Laurie Marbas, and Dr. Alan Goldhamer, among others. She is a regular guest on Chef AJ’s YouTube channel show, has a certificate in plant based nutrition from the T. Colin Campbell Center for Nutrition Studies through eCornell, and is certified in The Starch Solution.
Dr. Davis is available for Lifestyle Medicine TeleHealth appointments through Love.Life TeleHealth.

280 Pounds Lost: How to Break Down Self-Created Barriers to Health and Wellness

Chuck Carroll

Chuck Carroll is host of the Physicians Committee’s popular “The Exam Room” podcast and known widely as The Weight Loss Champion, a name given to him by an NFL player for losing an incredible 280 pounds.

At just 5 feet 6 inches tall, Chuck weighed 420 pounds and had a 66-inch waist before radically changing his life.

Before that, like so many others, he tried and failed countless times to lose weight. Any success he achieved was short-lived as the weight came pouring back on and then some. At his heaviest, he was eating 10,000 calories every day.

Out of desperation, he decided to have weight loss surgery in 2009. Prior to the procedure he was convinced that it would become like all the other failed attempts to lose weight. Chuck was just 27 years old at the time and didn’t believe he would live to see 30. He thought at least he would go to his grave saying he tried everything.

But then the unexpected happened. He woke up from the surgery and never looked back.

Although a critical component, the procedure proved only to be the first step in his journey. In fact, he only attributes 10 percent of his long-term weight loss success to it. The rest he credits to a plant-based diet and changing his lifestyle!

By adopting a plant-based diet, he is no longer afraid of regaining the weight as he had so many times before — no more yo-yo dieting! He is thrilled that he is lowering his risk of cancer and Alzheimer’s Disease, both of which run rampant in his family. As a bonus, he is no longer spending massive amounts of money on medical expenses because of his optimum health!

The confidence he gained from the weight loss enabled him to pursue his dream of becoming a reporter where he covered sports and news for CBS and later NBC News Radio. He was also previously featured in PCRM’s Teaming Up 4 Health campaign where he had the opportunity to speak on Capitol Hill and share his remarkable journey.

Now he is delighted to be bringing his passion and talents to the Physicians Committee as host of The Exam Room and to show others that the impossible is possible — you can get healthy!

Anthony Masiello

Anthony Masiello is the Co-founder and CEO of Love.Life Telehealth, a national lifestyle telemedicine service focused on the prevention and reversal of disease, and optimizing and wellness, with lifestyle medicine.

Anthony has been working in healthcare for more than 25 years. His career started in the 90s at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) doing bioinformatics work on the Human Genome Project. He later shifted into Research and Development at Novartis Pharmaceuticals, where he was excited to contribute to the development of new disease therapies.

While working at Novartis, he transformed his own health and learned of a better way. He shifted his career once again and is now 100% focused on providing access to medical services centered on the prevention and reversal of disease utilizing lifestyle medicine and whole food plant-based nutrition.

Anthony came to a plant-based lifestyle himself after being denied a 20-year term life insurance policy at age 33. He was morbidly obese, weighing more than 360 pounds, medicated for high blood pressure, and suffering from psoriasis, eczema, migraine headaches, and sleep apnea. With his transition to a whole food plant-based diet and healthy lifestyle, Anthony lost 160 pounds and reversed all these conditions. He has maintained that weight loss, and an incredible quality of life, for more than 16 years and counting.

He co-founded what is now Love.Life Telehealth in 2019 to make lifestyle medicine available to everyone. He’s proud to enable patients to find the medical care they need to implement lifestyle changes that will truly improve their health, wellness, and quality of life, no matter where they live.

Anthony’s personal transformation has been featured on the Megyn Kelly Today show, on PBS, in The Huffington Post, in the bestselling book Eat to Live, and by Forks Over Knives, Runners World, and numerous magazines, web sites, radio shows, podcasts, and articles.

Andrew Taylor’s story went viral when the world caught wind of the then-36 year old Aussie dad who had embarked upon a quest to eat only potatoes for the entirety of 2016.

With the media frenzy that followed his ‘Spud Fit Challenge’ story came the opportunity to help thousands of other food addicts deal with their own food psychology issues while losing weight and getting healthier along the way.

Andrew’s first short book, ‘The D.I.Y. Spud Fit Challenge’ : a how-to guide to tackling food addiction with the humble spud’ was co-authored by his wife Mandy van Zanen and has helped many people to break the shackles of food addiction. His second book, ‘Spud Fit: A whole food, potato-based guide to eating and living’ is a collaborative effort between him and over 90 contributors, many of them giants in plant-based nutrition science from around the globe.

Andrew now spends his time coaching others through food addiction through his courses, informal and informative Youtube videos, his blog and his steadily expanding Spud Fit community, along with Mandy. He is also a sought-after speaker and natural interviewer, hosting groundbreakers such as Rich Roll, James Aspey, Doug Lisle and Alan Goldhamer for his podcast.

Since concluding a prolific professional cycling career that produced a medal at the 2012 London Olympic Games, eight U.S. national championships, two Pan American gold medals and a world record, Dotsie Bausch has become a powerful influencer for plant-based eating for athletes and non-athletes alike. Named one of the top 20 most influential vegans in the world by VegNews magazine, she uses her soapbox, and her degree in plant-based nutrition, to advocate for dietary justice, planet earth and animals.

Never one to shy away from facing staggering odds – just like she did in the Olympics while riding for Team USA, whose unlikely and triumphant story is chronicled in the Netflix documentary Personal Gold – she founded the non-profit Switch4Good. Switch4Good, an evidence-based nonprofit disrupting the disinformation Big Dairy feeds the public, works with health experts, athletes, social justice warriors, enlightened policymakers, and progressive corporations to promote ethical lifestyles and widespread behavioral change related to how we eat. Switch4Good launched in 2018 with a television commercial featuring six Olympians from four different countries who prove that cow’s milk is not part of a high-performance diet. The groundbreaking commercial aired on NBC during the 2018 Winter Olympic Games closing ceremonies and on ABC during the Academy Awards broadcast; since its inception, its campaigns have reached 363 million people. Bausch is also one of the stars of the documentary The Game Changers directed by Oscar-winner Louie Psihoyos and executive produced by Oscar-winner James Cameron.

Bausch speaks passionately around the world, spreading her message about the numerous benefits – humane, nutritional and environmental – of plant-based eating. Long before embodying radiant health and becoming an influential game changer, Bausch struggled for years with severe eating disorders and a recreational drug habit, a combination that triggered a suicide attempt. It was during her recovery that she discovered her gift and love for the bike.

Feeling the Pressure? Thriving in Social Situations without Compromising Your Health

Dr. Kim Scheuer

Kim Scheuer, MD, began her career as a traditional Family Practice physician. Despite eating healthier than most Americans and believing she was fit, she struggled with weight issues until age 47. While searching for a way to decrease her family history of cancer risk, Kim read The China Study. What she learned started a long and “fruitful” journey of discovering how to use a Whole Food Plant-Based Diet and Lifestyle Medicine to prevent, treat, and reverse chronic disease’s root causes. For the first time in her career, she could genuinely help herself and her patients heal rather than merely treat the symptoms of illnesses. One of her favorite parts of her new way of practicing medicine is to de-prescribe medications and help her patients become “younger every year” by adopting healthier lifestyle choices.
On her journey, Dr. Scheuer has transitioned from the traditional medical group she ran and worked in for twenty years in Aspen, Colorado, to her lifestyle medicine practice DOKS Lifestyle Medicine, and then partnering with the incredible providers at Plant Based Telehealth which is now called Love.Life Telehealth. She has also facilitated several very successful Complete Health Improvement Program (CHIP) courses.
Dr. Kim Scheuer is board certified in both Family Practice and Lifestyle Medicine. She is conversant in Spanish and American Sign Language. She is licensed to see patients in over 20 states.
Kim now lives and benefits from the lifestyle she recommends for her patients. She loves to share what she has learned with all who want to be healthier and happier.

Jayney Goddard is one of the world’s leading experts in the fields of complementary medicine and natural health. She is a broadcaster, author, lecturer and journalist and an acknowledged thought leader in the health care arena.

Initially a ballerina, Jayney “accidentally” joined the circus as an aerial artiste, which required travel to some of the most far-flung and primitive places in the world. During this time, when there was no access to conventional medicines, she witnessed first-hand the phenomenal power of natural, folk medicines and it was this that inspired her to train in a range of complementary medical disciplines.

Jayney is now founder and president of The Complementary Medicine Association (The CMA) and founder and co-chair of the British Society of Lifestyle Medicine. She has a Master of Science post-graduate degree from UCLan, England; trained in Mind/Body Medicine at Harvard Medical School, USA, under Dr Herbert Benson (the “father” of Mind/ Body Medicine); and runs an international practice in which she uses a range of natural medicine approaches to help clients reach their fullest health potential.

Over the last 30 years, Jayney has dedicated her life to working with people suffering from chronic lifestyle-related conditions, as she herself experienced a life-threatening illness that left her wheelchair-bound for ten years. At her lowest point, she was in hospice care, weighing only 5.5 stone (35kg; 77lbs), and not expected to survive. As a result, she aged dramatically from a “biological” perspective, measuring in at 55 when she was, in reality, only 36. However, Jayney knew in her heart that she had the ability to beat the illness via natural methods, and she did! After coming up with all the recommendations that she writes about in her latest book; “Rewind Your Body Clock – The Complete Natural Guide to a Happier, Healthier, Younger You”, Jayney managed not only to get healthy – but also to rewind her own body clock in the process.

How Karla Lost 236 Pounds... And the Life-Changing Truths She Unearthed Along the Way

Karla Freeze

Karla was a 50-year-old woman, weighing 371 lbs when she was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes on January 19, 2008. Along with diabetes, she had high cholesterol, heart disease, and sleep apnea. These health issues were a wake-up call for her.

Despite her weight being a concern from her elementary school days, it wasn’t until this moment that she realized the severity of her situation. Determined to change, she initially followed a standard American diet but had limited success.

The real game-changer was when her mom was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in 2012. Scared and wanting to prevent this for herself, she started researching and found that a vegan diet could help. She turned vegan that Christmas.

The vegan diet helped with her weight and cholesterol, and incredibly, her diabetes was reversed. However, she was eating a lot of processed vegan foods and knew she could do better.

Her further research led her to a Whole Foods Plant-Based lifestyle in 2013. This focus on natural and minimally processed foods was the key she had been searching for.

After switching to this lifestyle, her health transformed: her cholesterol and diabetes were under control, she no longer needed medication or a CPAP machine for sleep apnea, and her overall physical health improved significantly. By sticking to this lifestyle, she managed to lose a total of 236 pounds since her diagnosis in 2008.

Today, Karla is passionate about guiding others through their own health journeys, hoping to make their paths a little easier than hers.

You feel overwhelmed and don't know where to start

You enjoy connecting with likeminded people

Why this is so urgent

taao2023_00007

Food Supply

A study published in the journal "BMJ Open" found that ultra-processed foods make up around 58% of all of the calories in the U.S. diet. Unhealthy food is the common, cheaper and more convenient option. No wonder it's hard to eat healthfully even if you want to. (You'll discover how to make healthy the easy, delicious choice during the event - including cooking demos!)

taao2023_00001

Triggered

An NYU study highlighted that an average American is exposed to 4,000 to 10,000 ads daily. And when was the last time you saw an ad for broccoli? (There are ways to identify, disarm and even reprogram triggers and you'll learn them during the summit)

taao2023_00006

Doctors' Training

A study by UNC and Harvard found that "less than half of all schools report teaching any nutrition in clinical practice; practice accounts for an average of only
4.7 hours overall". In short: doctors don't know how to use nutrition for health. (You'll discover exactly what to stop, do and how to bounce back if you fall of the wagon).

taao2023_00004

Death on the Plate

Many cases of cancer, heart disease, diabetes, Alzheimer's... are linked to what we eat. So many in fact, that renowned journal "The Lancet" concluded that dietary factors are now killing 11 million people globally each year. More than any other factor. (You'll discover how to eat for health and longevity and overcome the most common obstacles along the way.)

depression

Stress

42 percent of people report being "stress eaters." This is not a sign of weakness but a natural consequence of our biology because 94% experience stress at work and processed foods are designed to artificially trigger our reward centers. (You'll get Tim and Heather's strategies to overcome cravings and emotional eating during the summit.)

depression2

Depression

Fighting for your health and life becomes harder and harder when you feel depressed and drained. Yet many factors of modern life skyrocket the likelihood of suffering from depression: obesity +55%, sedentary behavior +47%, prolonged social media use +60%. (During the summit you'll be inspired, find your why and take action because your outlook on life will change once you feel it's possible.)

taao2023_00002

The Norm

In today's day and age, normal means being overweight, have multiple chronic diseases and struggle for the last few decades of your life... No one deserves this but it's almost become accepted! So when you live a healthy life, you're by default going against the norm. (That's why it's so important to connect with other likeminded people and find support and the summit is a great place for that).

Health is the foundation of life. Yet it's under attack from every side. That's why we're teaming up with 36 experts to help you Thrive Against All Odds - FOR FREE.
